POSITION OVERVIEW:   

Open Television (OTV) is seeking a dynamic and motivated Social Media Intern to support our marketing and communications efforts over a 6-month period. This role is ideal for someone looking to break into digital communications and gain hands-on experience in social media strategy, content creation, and digital marketing within the media and arts sector. As a Social Media Intern, you will play a key role in amplifying OTV’s mission and increasing brand engagement across platforms. Working closely with the marketing team, you will assist in curating content, executing campaigns, and driving community engagement while gaining valuable insight into the day-to-day operations of a creative organization. This internship offers the opportunity to work on portfolio-building campaigns, with the potential for job opportunities, referrals, and recommendations upon successful completion. Depending on performance, there may also be an opportunity for contract or part-time work with OTV in the future. 

PROFILE OVERVIEW:  
We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Social Media Intern with a passion for digital media, storytelling, and community engagement. The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of social media platforms, trends, and content creation, and be eager to contribute in a hands-on, supportive role. This internship is a great opportunity to build your portfolio by working on campaigns that enhance job prospects. You’ll assist with executing social media campaigns, curating content, and engaging with our community across platforms. While the role primarily supports strategies defined by the Head of Marketing & Exhibition, we encourage the intern to pitch new techniques and emerging trends to enhance our social media strategy. This is a chance to gain practical experience in social media strategy, content marketing, and digital communications within the arts and media sector. Core Responsibilities // Essential Functions:


CONTENT CREATION:
Assist in the creation and curation of visually compelling and engaging content for OTV’s social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X, Mailchimp, etc.), including graphics, videos, captions, and stories.

SOCIAL MEDIA STRATEGY:
Support the execution of social media strategies set forth by the Head of Marketing & Exhibition, including assisting with trend research, identifying target audiences, and contributing to content plans. Help implement strategies to enhance audience engagement and expand reach, while supporting the team in executing campaigns effectively.

CAMPAIGN ASSISTANCE:
Help execute social media campaigns to promote events, initiatives, and new content. Ensure campaigns are aligned with OTV’s mission and brand identity.

ENGAGEMENT & COMMUNITY BUILDING:
Monitor, engage with, and respond to comments, messages, and interactions across social media platforms to foster community relationships and grow engagement.

ANALYTICS & REPORTING:
Assist with tracking and analyzing social media metrics to assess campaign performance, and generate insights for optimization and future strategies.

TREND MONITORING:
Stay up-to-date on emerging social media trends, platform features, and best practices to inform new content ideas and campaign strategies.

COLLABORATION & BRAINSTORMING:
Participate in team meetings, offering creative input and new ideas. Collaborate with colleagues to brainstorm and refine strategies, ensuring alignment with OTV’s goals.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS // MISCELLANEOUS DETAILS


COMPENSATION:  

  • Location: This is fully remote position with a preference for Chicago-based applicants 

  • Stipend: $1,500- 2,000 per month for 6 months, depending on experience. 

  • Flexible Hours: Estimated 10-15 hours per week 

  • Duration: 6-month internship with the potential for future opportunities based on performance.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Actively enrolled in school or recently graduated with a focus on marketing, communications, or a related field is preferred. No prior professional experience required, though familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok, etc.) is highly desirable.


EXPERIENCE 

1-2 years of experience in visual design, digital marketing or other related fields. Experience working within nonprofit, media, or creative industries is preferred. A strong understanding of design principles and digital marketing is essential.

 

SPECIALIZED SKILLS 

  • Proficiency in social media platforms and basic graphic design tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.).

  • Knowledge of social media trends, tools, and analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, Sprout Social, etc.).

  • Strong writing and communication skills with the ability to craft engaging social media content.

  • Ability to work independently in a remote or hybrid work environment with strong time management skills. 

  • A passion for digital media, storytelling, and creative strategy with an ability to pitch new social media strategies and content ideas to senior team members.
