POSITION OVERVIEW:   

Open Television (OTV) is seeking a highly motivated and creative Public Relations Contractor to elevate our visibility and enhance our brand presence across a wide range of media platforms. This contract position will be instrumental in supporting the 10th anniversary of OTV, focusing on cultivating a strong PR campaign that highlights our impact, champions the OTV leadership team, and positions OTV’s nonprofit streaming platform and media incubator as a global fixture in the short-form media landscape.

As a Public Relations Contractor, you will work closely with OTV’s leadership team to create media outreach campaigns, manage media relations, and increase OTV’s presence in national and international outlets. The ideal candidate will have experience in PR within the arts, entertainment, or nonprofit sectors, and be passionate about advocating for diverse and intersectional storytellers.


Core Responsibilities // Essential Functions:


  • Develop and execute a comprehensive PR strategy for OTV’s 10th anniversary, with a focus on raising the profile of our leadership team and establishing OTV as a global leader in short-form media.

  • Create and implement a targeted media outreach campaign that emphasizes OTV’s impact, milestones, and role in the indie media landscape over the past decade. .

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key media contacts, journalists, and influencers in the arts, entertainment, and nonprofit sectors.

  • Draft and distribute press releases, media pitches, and other communications materials, particularly focused on the 10th anniversary celebrations and OTV’s unique role in the media industry.

  • Work with the leadership team, governing body and other key stakeholders to capitalize on opportunities to leverage thought-leadership and deliver key messaging around the future of intersectional storytelling. 

  • Coordinate media interviews, press events, and other PR activities to support OTV’s initiatives and projects, particularly around the anniversary celebrations and major program launches. 

  • Coordinate partnerships and collaborations with brands, media and other relevant entities aimed and elevating OTV’s profile and increasing the organization’s digital presence. 

  • Track and report on PR campaign success, providing regular updates and insights.

  • Assist in drafting content for OTV’s website, newsletters, and social media platforms, ensuring a consistent and positive brand voice, especially during key milestones in the anniversary year.

  • Support the creation of press kits and other marketing materials that reflect OTV’s work, legacy, and ongoing impact on the media arts field.

  • Stay current on trends in media and PR strategies, especially within the film, arts, and nonprofit sectors


JOB QUALIFICATIONS // MISCELLANEOUS DETAILS


RETAINER & COMMITMENT:

  • Quarterly or Monthly Retainer: This is a contract position with a retainer structure for ongoing work.

  • Estimated Hours per Week:  To be determined by the contractor.  

  • The retainer will be structured as a monthly or quarterly payment, reflecting the estimated hours commitment and agreed-upon scope of work.

  • This role is completely remote though the ideal candidate will be based in New York, Los Angeles or Chicago with the ability to travel domestically  and internationally.

 

SPECIALIZED SKILLS 

  • Proven experience in public relations, media relations, or communications, particularly in the nonprofit, arts, or film sectors.  

  • Experience running successful campaigns that center storytelling, community engagement and innovative PR strategies. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute successful media campaigns, especially around high-profile events like anniversaries and milestone celebrations.

  • Strong media relations skills, with an established network of contacts in relevant media outlets.

  • Highly organized with attention to detail and ability to handle multiple priorities.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.

  • Passion for OTV’s mission and values, and commitment to advocating for diverse, underrepresented voices in the arts.

  • Proficiency in digital PR tools and platforms (e.g., Cision, Meltwater, etc.) is a plus.
